How sunburnt do i have to be to get skin cancer?
Posted by admin
I was sitting in the sun for about an hour today and got a sunburn on my legs. My skin is more firm than before the burn and it's a bit raised. Is it possible im developing skin cancer or is it a normal sunburn. Im not peeling or anything.
A sunburn does not cause instant skin cancer. The damage done to your skin today can and will cause skin cancers to occur 5-10-15-30 years from today.

One sunburn can cause skin cancer. However cancer usually develops years later. If you are unsure about the condition of your skin, see a doctor.

Sunburns are not necessary for skin cancer. It has a direct relation to the amount of UV rays you have absorbed and your skin tone. Lighter skins runs a greater risk than darker. If you question your skin tone, look at your eye color. Lighter eye color have a greater risk.

As far as i understand, skin cancer happens when uv rays enter the melanocytes in your skin at the wrong angle. now, obviously, the more time you spend in the sun, the more likely this is likely to happen, just because it increases the probability. For example, if you were to randomly fire bullets at a target while blindfolded, the longer you do so, the more likely you are to finally end up hitting it. However, burning has nothing to do with actually getting skin cancer, as far as I understand. Can anyone confirm?
