What causes skin cancer and how do you know if you have it?

Posted by admin

I heard that if you get a little bump like…lets say on your arm, and you pick at it until it bleeds a little. Then you ignore it, and it’ll keep coming back in the same place? is that skin cancer?

I started getting several little bumps on my arm and when i pick at them, they keep coming back. My dad is a doctor and he says that I just need more oils. Is this true?

so back to my question: What causes skin cancer and how do you know if you have it?

Skin Cancer: Cancer that forms in tissues of the skin.
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin cancer.

Sores that do not heal: Skin cancers may bleed and resemble sores that do not heal.

I had those on my arm. It was precancerous. You should see a dermatologist as not all are the same.

In nursing school we were taught the ABCDs of skin cancer (or least a visit to a doctor was in order). A – Asymmetry, is 1/2 of the shape the same as the other 1/2? If not, then that's a red flag. B – Border, is the edge of the spot clearly defined or fuzzy? If fuzzy, then that's a red flag. C – Color, is the spot the same color all over or different colors? Different colors is bad. D – Diameter, if it's larger than the a pencil eraser, then it needs to be looked at. Having any of these is cause for concern, but all 4 needs to be seen ASAP.

I have one small spot like that.. though I don't make it bleed.
I pick at it and then it grows back. The dermatologist saw it and said it was fine.. THOUGH… I have to say the best thing for you is to see a dermatologist. Because what I have and what you have may sound similar but not se the same. A doctor is the one that should be looking at it. If you have any other moles or large beauty marks he can also check them out while you are there.

Any type of UV ray can cause skin cancer. The sun or in a tanning bed. Usually you get some sort of skin discoloration.

That really depends on the nature of the bump.

The most obvious symptom of skin cancer is unusual new moles… ones that are particularly dark, large, or growing are particularly concerning. It's generally caused by overexposure to UV rays from the sun, some people are far more prone to it than others… and that tendency is hereditary.

Best bet is to go to a dermatologist. It's quick and painless to test a growth like that.

Though I will say if it's just a bump that you're picking at, normal moles and scar tissue don't go away unless you surgically remove them.
