Sun protection for 6 month old baby?
Looking for advice for sun protection cream suitable for a 6 month old baby, very fair skinned, Irish-Icelandic so you can imagine the sun is very alien to us!!!!!.

I use simple factor 50 as my husbands skin can be a bit sensitive so i like to be cautious with my sons skin.

  1. Anna Said,

I used Desitin on mine at that age. Desitin is zinc oxide, so it acts as a complete sunblock, not just a sunscreen. Plus, it is made for small babies skin.

ASDA's own brand skin care products were voted as best on shelves. Obviously a very high factor for a baby though. 40 +

    Ambre Solaire
Its Factor 60 and is reccommended for children under 36 months because it offers maximum protection. It’s also hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and resists for up to 40 minutes in the water. But it can be quite expensive but I think you can get it at Boots quite cheaply.

Also, Proderm is a newcomer to the UK market, although it has been sold in Scandinavian countries for some time. Kids Sunblock Mousse is Factor 30 (150ml) and because it lasts six hours it only needs to be applied once or twice a day. But I'm not sure where you get it.

The E45 Factor 25 Sun Block (150ml) is allery screened and perfume free. It's ideal for highly sun sensitive skin, including eczema. Also in the range is E45 sun lotion, factor 15 and 30, sun block factor 50 and Aftersun.

  6. Meriam T Said,

Look out for creams or sprays specially formulated for your baby's skin – adult creams may cause irritation. Choose one that has an SPF of at least 15+. Some companies make coloured sun creams, so that you can see if you have "missed a bit. Your child's skin is immature, which makes it especially sensitive to external aggressions, particularly to the sun and its UV rays.

I spoke to one of the customer advisers in Boots last summer when it was really hot for a while, my daughter wasn't quite 6 months so I wasnt sure about which cream. She recommended Soltan for babies and it was fantastic.

yes, everytime you go outside! Their skin is very sensitive and doesn't need to get sunburned. You can get the waterbabies sunblock…it's ok to put on 6 months +. You can pick it up at any store

Just ask your local pharmacist and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

    Water Babies.
50 or higher. And water proof. The pink bottle water babies is the #1 children recommended brand (so I hear) so I use it.

Have fun in the sun :)

well the best thing is to limit sun exposure. baby can get a few minutes of direct sun, then be covered with a shirt or hat. sun exposure is good in small doses.

you will see many brands for baby's and you want at least 50SPF. but i think they make them up to 75, which might be better if baby is extra white.
