Dressing a summer newborn?
We have very hot, humid summers. Upper 80's and 90's. What would be my best choices for clothing. I have another child so staying inside wont be happening.
I plan to buy sleepers for sleeping because of the air conditioning but I'm lost with outside. I know they say an extra layer but really we would all walk around naked if we could get away with it
so I'm thinking onies and recieving blanket for sun protection. Enough or would shirts and pants be better? Help ![]()
You want to put the baby in a onesie or light outfit to absorb the sweat and help prevent heat rash. Draping a blanket like a curtain over a stroller is a good idea but don't put it on the baby for more than an minute or so (ie to the car on top of the carrier etc) because it will trap so much body heat in. NO SUNSCREEN UNTIL THE BABY IS SIX MONTHS OLD!! So no sun for the baby, lightly covered in the shade and no longer than 15-20 minutes during peak hours. If you have light weight shirts and pants, they are great because they offer more protection from the sun. Babies don't need an extra layer in the heat, they can't keep body heat in as well but they can overheat more quickly too. Keep baby well hydrated by nursing often and get plenty of water for you and big kid too. While you do need to get big kid out, you don't need to sacrifice new baby's health. Have fun and be safe.

Both my kids were in onzies with a blanket used for shade….I would keep them out of the sun as much as possible though. Get some good sunblock made for babies….SPF 50 or higher…..

You'll want to protect baby from the sun, so pants and a long sleeve onsie and a hat might be your best bet.
And remember, you have another child…but that doesn't mean that the baby that is coming needs to be jeopordized. Compromise when possible. The infant should take priority since he/she's most fragile.
At target they sell this clothing line called Sun Smarties…and they are clothes with UV protection but they are really light and airy….I just don't know how small they sell them.
Good Luck and Congratulations.

Onsies or just a t-shirt and diaper if it is that hot. Outfits made of light weight cotton.
Make sure the baby is well hydrated and protected from the sun with a hat or shade of some sort!. Always take extra layers and blankets just in case.
Have a fun summer!

I had that problem with my little one. It's hot outside but cool inside. Probably layers are the best. A onesie underneath clothes that you can easily take off when outside. You want to protect him from the sun but you also don't want him to be too hot. Your stroller should provide enough shade so that he doesn't get sun, but it does get warm in those strollers. Just carry a blanket in your stroller so if it gets chilly you can cover him.

I live in Florida and had my son last July…I would put him in a light onsie and a light blanket..But do keep him in the shade..I wouldn`t apply sunblock unless you ask you pediatrician first…I also wouldn`t stay out side for long periods of time either…Try taking your other child out while the baby is napping…I have another baby due August 3rd so I`ll be in the same spot as you!! Good Luck and Congrats!!

We live where is it warm most of the year too and we use the TCS (Technical Comfort System) stuff from Halo (we got ours at Halosleep.com, but i think Target may carry it too). The clothing has a high SPF (so much better than chemical sunscreen!) and was made to keep baby’s skin cool and dry – in fact our little one has ezcema and since we started using the TCS Halo gear, we haven’t had ANY problems…check it out i bet you will love it like we do!
