Can you get skin cancer on unexposed skin?

Posted by admin

I have a red growth on a place that gets absolutely NO sun exposure. Can you get skin cancer in places like these? Thanks.

Yes. "Melanoma is a cancer that begins in melanocytes, the cells that produce the pigment melanin that colors the skin, hair, and eyes, as well as forms moles. Since most of these pigment cells are found in the skin, melanoma of the skin (cutaneous melanoma) is the most common form of melanoma. However, melanoma can develop in the eye, digestive tract, brain or spinal cord, or other areas where melanocytes are found." (http://www.melanoma.org/learn-more/melanoma-101/facts-and-information-about-melanoma-melanoma-101) It can form in places that are never exposed to the sun. If you think something looks different, go to a dermatologist and get it checked out.

    Yes that could be skin cancer. U can get skin cancer exposed or not exposed to sun light. For an example a taning machine could have caused ur skin cancer or lack of sunlight as well. It might not be skin cancer at all it could be a rash or another type of cancer (lets hope not). Its best to report this to ur doctor for examination before it begins to spread.
    <hope it helps>

    Yes you can, particularly melanoma, the only regularly fatal skin cancer is notorious for showing up in odd places. More common and less serious skin cancers (basal and squamous) more commonly appear on sunexposed areas however.

    When in doubt, have your doctor check it out. And if he’s in doubt…get a biopsy.
