Has anyone gotten into the coast guard or other military branch with a history of skin cancer?

Posted by admin

I am a little worried about getting into the coast guard because I have had skin cancer a few times. As of right now I do not have any cancer. I know the coast guard does not give any type of medical waiver to get in. What do you think? Will they care about skin cancer?

This is what MEPS will go by:

2–31. Tumors and malignant diseases
a. Current benign tumors (M8000), or conditions that interfere with function, prevent the proper wearing of the
uniform or protective equipment, or will require frequent specialized attention, or have a high malignant potential, such
as Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome, are disqualifying.
b. Current or history of malignant tumors (V10) is disqualifying.

Skin cancer (other than malignant melanoma)
removed with no residual, is not disqualifying.
