Use Sun Clothing for Sun Protection

Posted by admin

It is important that we use sun protective items including sunscreen, sun clothing, and sunglasses to protect ourselves from the dangers of the sun while enjoying the outdoors.

Why the need for sun protection?

Overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays can cause skin damage. This skin damage can range in severity from sunburns and rashes to premature wrinkles and skin cancer. In fact, according to the National Cancer Institute there will be more than an estimated 1 million new cases of skin cancer in 2008. Each year more than 53,600 people in the United States are diagnosed with melanoma (the worst form of skin cancer).

What can we do for protection?

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has established a program to teach us how to protect ourselves from overexposure to the sun. The program is called Sunwise. Their sun safety action steps are the following:

  • Do Not Burn
  • Avoid Sun Tanning and Tanning Beds
  • Generously Apply Sunscreen
  • Wear Protective Clothing
  • Seek Shade
  • Use Extra Caution Near Water, Snow and Sand
  • Watch for the UV Index
  • Get Vitamin D Safely

UV index, sun clothing, SPF ratings may be terms that are very new to you. The goal of the Sun Clothing Blog is to inform you about the potential dangers of the sun and provide you information that you can consider for helping you protect yourself and your family.

sun protective clothing and tan lines?

Posted by admin

The cloths that surfers wear it’s look like a tshirt will you get tan lines? or is it made so you will be evenly tan even when you wear it? Sorry if i’m confusing anyone.

No, what they wear is like the equivalent to wearing a T-shirt. You will get tan lines unless you are already tan.

What does sunburn have to do with skin cancer?

Posted by admin

I've heard having a bad sunburn can increase your chances of having skin cancer by so much. How much? Also, other things about sunburn releated to skin cancer. Thanks in advance for your help.

UV light is energetic enough to bounce electrons away from molecules in your DNA. When that happens, the configuration of the DNA changes and it cannot replicate. Your body does have ways of preventing this, but if it happens enough, it cant keep up and more errors build up and cancer starts appearing from all the errors. Mistakes in DNA=cancer.

What is the best sun protection for sensitive skin?

Posted by admin

I get spots on my face if I use normal suncream. Can anyone reccomend one which will prevent this??

**I have hyper sensitive skin and I reacted to most sunscreens – many, I have learned, particularly the high spf ones, damage and age skin. This is a great trick I learned by chance. I first massage an essential oil – olive is good – thoroughly into skin and then wipe away just the excess with water and tissues and then apply the sunscreen on top. The oil acts as a barrier – sunscreen doesn't contact skin. Surprisingly it is equally, if not more, protective. I am often in intense sun for many hours a day with just ONE application of spf 15 and I never burn or tan and I get absolutely no reactions.

SOURCE(S): 20 + years research – safe, natural treatments to permanently cure skin conditions and to enhance, counteract aging and rejuvenate.

would i still get skin cancer if i lay in the sun with sunscreen?

Posted by admin

if i have on spf 10 sunscreen and lay out in the sun, do i still have chances of geting skin cancer?

On average everyone has about a 1 in 7 chance in getting skin cancer. Then you introduce various risk factors such as family history, repeated sunburns before have 21, high number of moles, etc.

repeated use of tanning booths along doubles this chance.

The body's act of tanning is a defense mechanism to prevent further damage by UV rays. This sacrifice of Melatin cells is the suspected mechanism of creating cancer cells (Melanoma).

UVB rays are what cause the sun burns, UVA cause tanning, penetrate deeper into the skin.

So a good preventive behavior is a sunscreen (spf 30 or higher) that provides both UVA and UVB protection. Avoid unprotected skin exposure during middle of day. If you have risk factors, then periodically see a dermatologist.
