Have fun in the summer sun without turning your hair into a hot mess.

To complete this How-To you will need:

Leave-in conditioner with heat protection
Hair sunscreen
Hair products with moisturizers
A monthly trim
A weekly deep conditioning treatment
A hat

Step 1: Avoid hot hair care

Let your hair air-dry whenever you can or use only the cool setting on your hair dryer. Limit the use of heated styling tools like flat irons and hot rollers. When you do use them, first apply a leave-in conditioner designed to protect hair from heat.

Tip: Always hold your hair dryer at least four inches from your hair when blow drying on a hot setting.

Step 2: Wear a hair sunscreen

Wear a hair gel or spray that filters out UV rays, especially if you’re spending the day at the beach. The sun and saltwater can turn blondes into bleached blondes and brunettes and redheads into “orangeheads,” whether your hair is color-treated or not. Better still, wear a hat.

Tip: Wearing your hair in a tight braid makes it less vulnerable to the sun.

Step 3: Avoid drying products

Avoid hair products that contain high concentrations of drying ingredients, like alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, and parabens. Look for products with moisturizing ingredients instead, like jojoba and shea and cocoa butter.

Step 4: Get frequent trims

Get your hair trimmed once a month in the summer to keep split ends at bay.

Step 5: Deep condition your hair

Deep condition your hair weekly during the summer months. It will help replenish the moisture the sun sucks out of it. Now get outside and enjoy yourself!

Skin Cancer Malignant Melanoma

Posted by admin

Dr. James L. Campbell Jr., MD discusses Skin Cancer Malignant Melanoma. See more at http://www.dermnet.com PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!!
Introduction

Melanoma is a common malignancy of melanocytes, most often arising in the skin. It is potentially curable with early detection and treatment. Late diagnosis of melanoma carries a

poor prognosis. The most common early signs include an increase in size, change in color or shape of the lesion. The most common early symptom is itching, but most are asymptomatic. Later

symptoms include tenderness, bleeding, and ulceration. Pigmented lesions may change slowly over months to years or abruptly change.

Epidemiology

Melanoma represents 4% of all cancers in men

and 3% of all cancers in women. Melanoma is the most common malignancy in women age 25-29 and second only to breast cancer in women aged 30-35. Incidence of melanoma continues to rise at a

faster rate than that of any other human cancer, and the increase in its mortality is second only to that of lung cancer. There are an estimated 92, 000 new cases and an estimated 7600 deaths from

melanoma in the United States each year. The projected lifetime risk of melanoma for Americans born in the year 2000 is 1 in 75.

Risk factors

Factors that increase ones risk of developing

melanoma include: Fair skin (skin types I and II) Presence of atypical nevi in both sun-exposed and sun-protected areas Personal history of melanoma Family history of atypical nevi or melanoma

History of blistering sunburn

Presence of congenital nevi, with the risk of malignant change increasing proportionally with the size of the congenital nevus.
