Day At The Beach.mov

Posted by admin

Hi, this is Dr. Davis for Coolibar Sun Protective Clothing.

I wanted to give you some pointes on getting ready for a day at the beach or pool. You know you are going to be outside, you’ve got the kids in tow, and you’re wondering – What do I put in my beach bag?

Sunscreen
The basics to keep you Sun Safe the whole day include sunscreen, what you choose depends on your preference, but a nice high SPF sunscreen, such as Vanicream 60, or the kid’s love the Blue Lizard sunscreen which is a combination of chemical and physical, plus the bottle will also tell you when to put it on, it turns blue in ultraviolet light.

Sunglasses and Sun Hat
The other thing – sunglasses. Even for the kids, eye protection is important. For the kids, Coolibar makes an excellent UV protective lens, but also this nice strap so that it stays on in the water. And I do recommend leaving the sunglasses on in the water as well as the hat, which might be a surprise. But Coolibar makes some chlorine and salt water resistant fabrics that the kids put on and just leave on all day. They can be simply washed, but they are resistant to those chemicals that otherwise might harm fabrics.

Sun Protective Clothing
Last but not least, the sun protective clothing. There are some absolutely adorable outfits for kids you put on and you don’t have to worry about re-applying the sunscreen except for those little parts that are showing, like the tops of their feet, tops of their hands.

Hat
Sunscreen
Sun Protective Clothing
Sunglasses

…keep your family sun safe for the whole day.

So teach your family to be SunAWARE and you’ll keep them safe!

Saturday Early Show on CBS talks about fashion with function, a segment on smart clothing that does more than make you look good: sun protection, bug repellent, and even GPS. Sun clothing: There no need to put lotion on every spot of your body. Coolibar (http://www.coolibar.com) clothing is UPF 50+, which means it blocks 98% UVA/UVB rays, lots of different products for different events such as hats, men’s and women’s shirts, and infant clothing, People don’t realize you can burn through normal clothing such as a white T-shirt which usually only offers an SPF 7 and when wet an SPF 4.

How to Protect Your Hair from the Sun

Posted by admin

Expand the description and view the text of the steps for this how-to video.

Check out Howcast for other do-it-yourself videos from Seaworthy and more videos in the Hair Care category.

You can contribute too! Create your own DIY guide at http://www.howcast.com/videos/new or produce your own Howcast spots with the Howcast Filmmakers Program at http://www.howcast.com/filmmakers/apply.

Have fun in the summer sun without turning your hair into a hot mess.

To complete this How-To you will need:

Leave-in conditioner with heat protection
Hair sunscreen
Hair products with moisturizers
A monthly trim
A weekly deep conditioning treatment
A hat

Step 1: Avoid hot hair care

Let your hair air-dry whenever you can or use only the cool setting on your hair dryer. Limit the use of heated styling tools like flat irons and hot rollers. When you do use them, first apply a leave-in conditioner designed to protect hair from heat.

Tip: Always hold your hair dryer at least four inches from your hair when blow drying on a hot setting.

Step 2: Wear a hair sunscreen

Wear a hair gel or spray that filters out UV rays, especially if you’re spending the day at the beach. The sun and saltwater can turn blondes into bleached blondes and brunettes and redheads into “orangeheads,” whether your hair is color-treated or not. Better still, wear a hat.

Tip: Wearing your hair in a tight braid makes it less vulnerable to the sun.

Step 3: Avoid drying products

Avoid hair products that contain high concentrations of drying ingredients, like alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, and parabens. Look for products with moisturizing ingredients instead, like jojoba and shea and cocoa butter.

Step 4: Get frequent trims

Get your hair trimmed once a month in the summer to keep split ends at bay.

Step 5: Deep condition your hair

Deep condition your hair weekly during the summer months. It will help replenish the moisture the sun sucks out of it. Now get outside and enjoy yourself!
