Do You Need Sun Protection for Moon Light [DermTV.com Epi #308]

Posted by admin

If you’ve been watching DermTV, by now you know that every day, rain or shine, you should be protecting yourself from the sun’s damaging rays by wearing sunscreen. But what about the sun’s light that’s reflected by the moon? Do you need moonscreen?

Everyone can have beautiful, healthy, and younger looking skin, and DermTV, the Internet’s daily skincare video show, will demonstrate how by revealing expert tips and techniques and by providing real solutions for real skincare issues.

Skincare (whether cosmetic or medical) previously required a trip to your dermatologist or a shopping spree at the pharmacy. And that’s if you have a trusted nearby dermatologist or a local informed pharmacy. But not anymore. We at DermTV are committed to making best-in-class dermatology and skincare guidance accessible to everyone, anytime, at your computer.

Every weekday, our host, Dr. Neal Schultz, one of New York’s most trusted and respected dermatologists (see bio below), teaches skincare’s most timely and timeless issues. Topics include: the best at home techniques and new technology for facial rejuvenation, preventing and fixing sun damage from wrinkles to skin cancer, breaking news in dermatology, general skincare topics, and more.

How to Protect Your Hair from the Sun

Posted by admin

Expand the description and view the text of the steps for this how-to video.

Check out Howcast for other do-it-yourself videos from Seaworthy and more videos in the Hair Care category.

You can contribute too! Create your own DIY guide at http://www.howcast.com/videos/new or produce your own Howcast spots with the Howcast Filmmakers Program at http://www.howcast.com/filmmakers/apply.

Have fun in the summer sun without turning your hair into a hot mess.

To complete this How-To you will need:

Leave-in conditioner with heat protection
Hair sunscreen
Hair products with moisturizers
A monthly trim
A weekly deep conditioning treatment
A hat

Step 1: Avoid hot hair care

Let your hair air-dry whenever you can or use only the cool setting on your hair dryer. Limit the use of heated styling tools like flat irons and hot rollers. When you do use them, first apply a leave-in conditioner designed to protect hair from heat.

Tip: Always hold your hair dryer at least four inches from your hair when blow drying on a hot setting.

Step 2: Wear a hair sunscreen

Wear a hair gel or spray that filters out UV rays, especially if you’re spending the day at the beach. The sun and saltwater can turn blondes into bleached blondes and brunettes and redheads into “orangeheads,” whether your hair is color-treated or not. Better still, wear a hat.

Tip: Wearing your hair in a tight braid makes it less vulnerable to the sun.

Step 3: Avoid drying products

Avoid hair products that contain high concentrations of drying ingredients, like alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, and parabens. Look for products with moisturizing ingredients instead, like jojoba and shea and cocoa butter.

Step 4: Get frequent trims

Get your hair trimmed once a month in the summer to keep split ends at bay.

Step 5: Deep condition your hair

Deep condition your hair weekly during the summer months. It will help replenish the moisture the sun sucks out of it. Now get outside and enjoy yourself!
