Just one blistering sunburn in childhood or adolescence more than doubles a person’s risk of developing melanoma later in life. Melanoma is the second most common form of cancer for young people 15-29 years old and accounts for up to three percent of all pediatric cancers.
Most children rack up between 50% and 80% of their lifetime sun exposure before age 18, so it’s important that parents teach their children how to enjoy fun in the sun safely. With the right precautions, you can greatly reduce your child’s chance of developing skin cancer.
